Jefferson High School, and the school district in which it is located, had embraced the state's mandate to provide “medically accurate” sex education, and to address issues of bullying and gender identity in schools. This chapter describes the author's research at Jefferson, which allowed her to better understand how sex education functions in practice when there is general policy alignment at the state, district, and community levels in support of Comprehensive Sexuality education, and a perception of diverse community sociocultural beliefs and practices related to sexuality.
