Nadia Boulanger’s apartment at 36 rue Ballu was a seat of intense social and artistic activity, the center of gravity of an international career as musician and pedagogue for nearly 75 years. Combining several archetypal places—classroom, salon, and place of worship—within a single space, the apartment served as a powerful means of communication, and an exhibition space for students, colleagues and fellow musicians, journalists and potential patrons.
