This introductory chapter discusses the contents and coverage of this volume, which is about trade in the services sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The papers in this volume were presented at the National Bureau of Economic Research Conference's eleventh annual East Asian Seminar on Economics held in Seoul, Korea on June, 22–24, 2000. This volume investigates the economy-wide trade liberalization impact on the economies of Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong, evaluates a specific service sector of a specific country and papers extends a usual concept of service trades measured in the balance-of-payments statistics.
