Different Approaches to International Comparison of Total Factor Productivity
This chapter examines alternative approaches to international comparisons of productivity. Section 11.2 provides some broad perspective to the research on international total factor productivity (TFP) comparison. The methodologies of three approaches to the TFP comparison are discussed and compared in Section 11.3. Section 11.4 compares the results obtained by use of these different approaches. Section 11.5 discusses the issue of decomposition of the TFP, and Section 11.6 addresses the issue of TFP convergence. Section 11.7 discusses the controversy regarding the East Asian growth. Section 11.8 contains concluding remarks. A commentary is also included at the end of the chapter.
