Restructuring the Electricity Industry in England and Wales
This chapter analyzes the restructuring and deregulation of the electricity industry in England and Wales which started in 1990. It explains that the goal of the deregulation was to reduce prices and this was accomplished by a substantial drop in electricity prices after 1990. This chapter also discusses how regulators in England and Wales anticipated and reacted to the problems of the deregulated market and cites lessons for other markets.
