This chapter discusses the actions taken by medical journals to address the issue of fraudulent research papers by individual scientists. Many journals have strengthened their peer-review and editorial processes that require assurances that all authors listed on a paper have actually participated in the research and have been more cognizant of the contents. Others demand disclosure of financial connections between authors and the drugs and medical devices on which they report. This chapter discusses the opinion of the Journal of the American Medical Association deputy editor Drummond Rennie on the issue.
