Southeast Asia
Funan, earliest kingdom to emerge in Southeast Asia, adopted the Indian model of kingship and used war elephants. Subsequent Indianizing kingdoms of the region used war elephants, for the better part of two millennia. Wild elephants were abundant, and instead of importing elephants from India local peoples adopted Indian methods of capture, training and management. Elephants feature prominently in the monuments of Angkor Wat.
