This chapter discusses that the making up of the lived experience in its temporality must be neither psychological nor logical. The core of the phenomenological reduction will be attained paradoxically only by a “reduction” of that genesis foreseen by Husserl as a psycho-physiological causality belonging to the domain of an empirical science. Husserl wishes to safeguard the double essence of the most radical subjectivity, insisting more on the transcendental originarity in Logical Investigations and in Philosophy as a Rigorous Science, more on the temporal character in the Vorlesungen. Husserl claims to distinguish between a psychological and a phenomenological origin of time. He presents the problem in the guise of a veritable aporia, which a deeper reflection could resolve; hence, predicting the flux of temporality in its absolute “unicity,” he recognizes that its objectivity cannot be exhausted by the immanent consciousness of time.
