Psychoanalysts against Biological Reductionism
This chapter examines how psychoanalysts reacted to John Bowlby's attempt to unify psychoanalysis with ethology. It focuses on the response of three major Freudian analysts: Anna Freud, Max Schur, and René Spitz. It shows that the gulf between them and Bowlby was unbridgeable, both in what they thought counted as facts and in their theoretical interpretations.
