This chapter considers what types of work lawyers of the conservative coalition perform and how they view the relationship between law and the causes they serve. It shows that while these lawyers mix strategies in different proportions, they all share a broad view of policy formation in which litigation and legislation are significant but not exclusive elements. These lawyers also appear to share the confidence that they play—and should play—important roles in the causes they serve. In the arena in which lawyers exercise greatest control—the courts—their constituencies generally have avoided open conflict.
