Back then, they didn’t let themselves be seen. If you saw them, they were dressed like anybody else, so you couldn’t recognize them. But then they started to declare who they were. They weren’t called guerrillas but rather compañeros. When I was like nine years old an uncle joined the guerrilla. My mom said, “Don’t talk to those people, because they take children with them.” My mom would lie to us so we wouldn’t hang out with them....
