Hoxby’s research makes an important contribution to our understanding of the role online delivery of higher education plays in the earnings dynamics of the students who use it. This online focus is highly policy relevant: as Hoxby details in the chapter, many have hoped that online education would be a low-cost way to avoid the increasing costs of traditional higher education while effectively—and perhaps even more effectively—providing students with skills needed for current labor market success.
