The conclusion ends New Television by assessing the genre/mode of new television, especially considering it in the context of queer theory and Lee Edelman’s critique of the notion of natality. The conclusion argues that Edelman’s critique of natality cannot settle matters in this case and that new television is ultimately politically neutral, capable of being quite regressive, but also capable of being progressive, and that, in fact, this is essential to how the employment of natality must work in the mode or genre: it must be empty, perpetually pointing beyond itself.
