Tracing the journey of two Aragonese ambassadors to Muslim Granada, this chapter details the first-known effort by the kings of the Crown of Aragon to recruit jenets for their armies. It argues that two crises, the threat of a French crusade and a series of rebellions, prompted by the Aragonese conquest of Sicily, first led the Crown of Aragon to pursue a wider alliance with these Muslim soldiers. In this period, the jenets proved themselves effective in response to crisis and became thoroughly embedded in the practice and performance of Aragonese royal power.
