How to Characterize Incidence Matrices

(p.92) Chapter Six How to Characterize Incidence Matrices
Patterns In Nature
James G. SandersonStuart L. Pimm

The two previous chapters described the use of constraints and an algorithm to construct null matrices. Chapter 6 describes the use of a metric, or measure, to compare properties in the observed incidence matrix with those found in the sample null space. Metrics can be chosen to obscure or illuminate subtle species co-occurrence patterns for further scrutiny.
