This chapter discusses the contribution of some scientists in shaping fisheries science. It discusses the E.S. Russell’s lectures on overfishing; Michael Graham’s On the Dynamics of Exploited Fish Populations, which proposes an analytical treatment of the impact of fishing on fish stocks; and Raymond Beverton and Sidney Holt’s study on the dynamics between fishermen and stocks they were catching. The chapter also discusses Wilbert McLeod Chapman, who presided over the signing of three fisheries treaties and established the International Commission for the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries (ICNAF) and the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC).
