Confronting the Nagger

(p.266) Chapter 29 Confronting the Nagger
Miss Cutler & the Case of the Resurrected Horse
University of Chicago Press

This chapter examines the experience of male social workers in Boston and Minneapolis in dealing with naggers. It explains that female clients with long experience of welfare encounters failed to recognize their authority over explanations and solutions, particularly in child protection cases. They were also often caught unprepared by the methods used by housewives to prove their case. The clients also threw belittling sarcasms at male caseworkers and questioned their right to exert and enact their professional responsibilities.
