This chapter, which discusses the daily task oriented work in homeland security, addresses the more workaday aspects of practice, the daily tasks that took a large part of the time of frontline staff. These tasks cover intelligence gathering and processing, watching, guarding, and incident response. The chapter also explains that distinction between activities focused on preventing emergencies and those that deal with response to, management of, and recovery from an event that had already occurred.
