This chapter explores the brotherly bonds forged between firefighters at Elk River by focusing on the sometimes unbrotherly practices of repartee and aggressive teasing. It also highlights how crewmembers discipline one another, and how they espouse and act on key principles of the Forest Service through ostensibly innocent everyday practices.
