Get Out of My Room! addresses the emergence of teen bedroom culture in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries. A host of cultural and socio-economic factors are examined along the way, including the rise of modern capitalism, the growing cultural authority of middle-class ways of living, technological innovation, intellectual support among social scientists and their allies in the media, the tendency towards smaller families, the creation of a teen subculture based on leisure and consumption, and shifting views on housing.
